NIGERIA UNIVERSITIES’ REOPENING DATES

As from 18th of January 2021, some public university students around Nigeria will start preparations to return to their various respective schools, this is coming as some school managements had set the time table for this year’s academic session.

The Senate of the schools will decide the resumption of this year’s academic session after having their meetings; some school Senate had held their meetings while some had never set the date for their meeting.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike for the past nine (9) months because of coronavirus pandemic, and government not effecting the 2009 agreement with the union.

On 23rd day of December in the year 2020, Government officials and ASUU officials settle their issue and what had made students being at home since March the year 2020 was resolved.

In spite of the strike called off by Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), school resumption that had been halted by the Presidential Taskforce because of the second wave of Covid-19 across the country.

Below are some of the Universities that had announced the date they will resume.

BAYERO UNIVERSITY KANO (BUK)

Bayero University Kano (BUK) Senate will begin their academic session for January 18, 2021, and their second semester will also begin 3rd May 2021.

In a memo that was issued by the University says 2019/2020 sessions which were for all undergraduate and postgraduate programme of the school had been cancelled.

Amnesty had been granted by the senate for postgraduate students who had not yet registered within the time they suppose to register, that they all should go-ahead to do their registration before the commencement of the session.

UNIVERSITY OF BENIN (UNIBEN)

The school resumption that for University of Benin, Edo state had been set as 30th day of January 2021 this date is for old and new students of the school.

This date is in the circular which the school Senate brought out at the end of their meeting on Monday, also 2019/2020 school session first semester will be until April 1st 2021. The second semester will start on April 5th 2021.

The school’s spokesman Benedicta Ehanire say this after the school senate meeting on 4th January, their agreement is if the students turn up in the school on the 30th that lectures will commence 1st of February 2021.

In another development, new students will start their clearance online from February 5th to April 30th and their orientation will start on 3rd of May 2021. The school also added that electronic learning (e-learning) will be used they encouraged students to acquire telephones that can be used for learning.

All students to adhere to Covid-19 arrangements, that any sick student should be treated before school starts.

Students and mandated to fill a form online and submit to the Dean of Student Affairs.
